After more than three months in lockdown, we finally have a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hopefully this time away from sport will make all of us realise how important it is to be out kicking a football and staying active.

It was disappointing to see the second half of the season cancelled, but the timing of the return is perfect.

Senior teams will be able to have six weeks of training in November and December before a break over Christmas. From January, they will launch into their preparations for next season.

For the juniors, summer football and holiday camps will provide both an opportunity to get out and kick a football around, as well as the chance to refine some of those skills that may have got rusty in recent months.

I am expecting participation rates will grow as a result of the past two years, with next season sure to be one of the most anticipated in a long time.

The standard of football should remain high, with junior development unlikely to be significantly affected by the lockdown.

It's time to dust off those boots, sport is almost back.
