The extra vaccines follow the rollout of an additional 17,500 Pfizer doses that began last Monday at the mass vaccination centre in Wollongong, as well as a clinic at Shoalhaven Hospital.
"Vulnerable and at-risk communities including homeless populations, cluster-style housing residents and the region's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities have been receiving priority access to these additional Pfizer doses, as well as Illawarra and Shoalhaven residents aged 12 to 59 years," Ms Mains said.
"A further 5800 doses of Pfizer will arrive this week and will be used to further protect at-risk communities, specifically cluster-style housing residents and areas of low vaccine take-up."
Transmission in the Illawarra is mostly occurring in households, often cluster housing with shared spaces that house more transient people.
Illawarra MPs have called for more vaccines for the region to bring the growing number COVID cases under control.
When asked about the response to the Illawarra's growing number of COVID cases this week, Deputy Premier John Barilaro said NSW Health had put forward a "targeted program" for managing areas raising concern or those with low vaccination rates.
"You'll find more Pfizer and more Moderna and more AZ [AstraZeneca] in areas where we're concerned," Mr Barilaro said, adding there could be a "stronger targeted approach" in the coming weeks.
However, when asked to confirm whether more doses were coming to the Illawarra, he did not specify.
Meanwhile, another pop-up vaccination clinic for Aboriginal residents of the Illawarra is coming this Friday. October 1.
The clinic will provide the Pfizer vaccine for any Aboriginal person aged 12 and older.
It will be open at 2 Wilga Close in Albion Park from 9.30am to 4pm and bookings can be made by texting or calling 0434 569 735.
