With the Australian Professional Leagues starting up and the clubs running the league away from Football Australia, I think it's good timing to start fresh and come up with something new. With the men, women's and youth coming under the A-Leagues umbrella, I think it's inclusive and will hopefully generate some renewed interest in the game.
The move brings everything together and it puts the women in the same category as the men. We've seen how much the women's game has grown and with the Women's World Cup here in a few years, it's inclusive and hopefully brings all of the stakeholders together, and makes the A-Leagues bigger and stronger.
The announcement follows on the back of A-Leagues signing a historic TV deal with Channel Ten.
I think the game will definitely have more reach and hopefully attract people who possibly didn't have pay TV and watch a lot of the A-League before being on free-to-air. Obviously Channel Ten is a big station and mainstream, and hopefully broadcasting Saturday night will allow the league to capture the attention of a lot of new supporters and the younger generation.
