Sanctuary Point man, 49-year-old David McArthur, died after suffering a single stab wound to the chest in his cabin at the Palm Beach Caravan Park around 8pm on Sunday, July 25.
Homicide Squad Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Walpole and Mr McArthur's father, Stuart, addressed the media on Tuesday, urging anyone with information to come forward.
"David had been attacked just inside the front door of his cabin and was stabbed once in the chest," Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Walpole said.
"We do know at least one person was sighted in the caravan park that night, fleeing not long after the murder.
"We would like anyone who might have witnessed any suspicious activities or may have seen anything that night to come forward.
"We would be interested to hear from anyone who may have information about that person.
"They might think it is insignificant and might not think it is connected but what they may have seen could help our investigation."
Neighbours alerted emergency services to the incident after hearing a "commotion" from Mr McArthur's cabin at the Ethel Street caravan park.
Upon arrival, officers found Mr McArthur with a stab wound to his chest and despite officers attempting CPR, he could not be revived and died at the scene.
Officers from the South Coast Police District and detectives began inquiries before detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad took over the investigation under Strike Force Frawley.
Chief Inspector Walpole thanked the local community who had already provided some strong leads in relation to the night David was murdered.
"We don't know a motive for the attack, however we do believe it is a targeted attack as opposed to random attack," he said.
Stuart and Susan McArthur urged anyone in the local community with information about their son's death to come forward to police.
"The last three months have been incredibly tough on our family - particularly because we still have no answers on how or why this happened to David," Mr McArthur said.
"David wasn't a person in isolation, he leaves behind his sisters, a daughter and son and a 15-month-old grandson," Mr McArthur said "and also his beloved dog Katie who has suffered as much anguish as we have."
He described his son as a "bit of a larrikin", who stood for no nonsense.
"David was a proud Australian who loved life and was a generous man. He didn't deserve to die in the circumstances which he did,' he said.
"He loved his country, spending six years in the army, before getting out with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but he was getting better.
"He kept exercising and was trying to get better and he was.
"This is not right, no one should lose a family member in this way.
"Many people in the community knew David, he had many, many friends and I'm fairly confident someone must know something.
"We just appeal for anyone in our community who knows anything to come forward.
"We'd be so grateful for anyone to come forward with information. I'm not one to say it will give us closure, because it won't but we appreciate the thoughts of people willing to help."
He thanked police for their "concern, support and work".
"We know police are working very hard on this case and we thank them for that," he said.
"We know police will be following up new avenues of their investigation in the coming days; please - if you know something about David's death - use this as an opportunity to do what is right."
Strike Force Frawley investigators will remain in the Shoalhaven area this week, interviewing additional witnesses and conducting a further canvass of several areas of interest.
