A police chopper has been overhead at Primbee for much of Wednesday morning, following the collision, at the intersection of Shellharbour Road and King Street, about 10am.
There are unconfirmed reports a man was arrested about 11.30am on Lakeview Pde at Primbee, in connection to the incident.
Police have confirmed they have arrested a 31-year-old man at Primbee in connection with a pursuit crash at Warrawong, earlier Wednesday. An eyewitness to the crash, Cris Trindal, told the Mercury the police car was pursuing a dark grey car from Shellharbour Road into the King St intersection when the cars collided.
"Police put the sirens on maybe 30 seconds before the crash," he said.
"Both cars came through the traffic lights. The car in front went to turn left and the police car hit straight up the side of it.
"Then probably 10-15 seconds later, the driver jumped out the car and took off towards Primbee."
The driver, described as aged in his mid-20s, was wearing dark tracksuit pants, a hoodie and no shoes as he fled, Mr Trindal said.
He left his passenger behind, still in the car.
The woman, believed aged in her 20s, was later assessed by paramedics for hip pain, but did not require transport to hospital, according to NSW Ambulance.
"[The passenger] was a bit groggy because the impact pretty much hit the passenger side straight-on," Mr Trindal said.
