The force behind Kiama's KISS Arts Festival have devised a free COVID-safe event with five designated performance zones involving ballet on unicycles, comedians, live music, an interactive art installation and the "tails and tales of Mermaids and sea nymphs".

Comedic performer and event producer for Laughter House Entertainment, Tamara Campbell, said it has been difficult for artists and entertainers to adapt to life in a pandemic like other businesses because they thrive on a live audience, but hoped this moving festival would "bring the happy back".

"As we open up, the festival scene still hovers on a board of uncertainty and sits in a limbo land," she said.

"Armed with the knowledge that people would potentially be slow to feel safe in crowds, but that they are desperate for some fun, adventure and laughter, [I] came up with Ride the Cultural Gong.

"Where you cycle on a pre-determined path to partake in a delightful variety of surprising cultural experiences."

The Fairy Meadow HUB near the surf club is where bike riders will start and finish, and where food and drinks will be available, coupled with circus play and live music.

The 18 kilometre round trip will be woven together by hosts at each venue guiding people safely and "keeping their laughter level high throughout the journey".

It's a free event though people will need to register for a particular time-slot across the day, to adhere to COVID-safe regulations.
