Woofs spokesman Frank Lux said their members will be demonstrating the skill and agility needed for Flyball, which is like a Ninja Warrior course for dogs.

"Any breed and speed is fine," Mr Lux said.

Mum to three rescue dogs, Sharon Garrard is the mastermind behind the free event which celebrates canines of any shape, size and breed from 10am to 2pm.

For the inaugural Illawarra festival she has organised free vet health checks, pet-related market stalls, food trucks, plus stalls from the Boxer Rescue Network and Deaf Dogs Rescue.

Jai Wilson from the latter said they will show people how Auslan can be used to train dogs and how it can be especially useful for those with disabilities.

"Not many people know about us," she said. "There are a lot of deaf dogs out there."
