"Wollongong LGA has made great strides over the past week, increasing second dose rates by a whopping 5 per cent to break the 80 per cent mark," a district spokesperson said.
"Shoalhaven and Shellharbour LGA residents are also kicking goals, with over 95 per cent having received at least one dose of the vaccine.
"Kiama LGA continues to lead the way with first and second dose rates now over 90 per cent."
This brings the average for the entire health district above the 80 per cent double vaccinated mark.
The district has urged residents to keep the momentum going, and have each LGA reach more than 90 per cent double dose.
This level of coverage will provide greater safety for vulnerable residents, such as the elderly.
IRT Tarrawanna CEO Patrick Reid says vaccination is the only path forward - and the more people are vaccinated, the safer it will be for residents of aged care centres and other vulnerable groups to rejoin the wider community.
