Demand for the latest spring season fashion was strong ahead of Melbourne Cup day, said Michelle Taylor, owner of popular Shellharbour business Get Dressed Hire.
"In the past two or three days there has been a real explosion of orders coming through," she said.
"All the new season stock I ordered in recently is flying off the shelves."
Mrs Taylor has seen an uptake in orders for dresses in bright blue, pink, orange and yellow, as well as earthy tones.
"Women are choosing bright floral colours, and we've seen an increase in demand for shorter dresses," she said.
Mrs Taylor said people were eager to celebrate, with Melbourne Cup day the first chance for many to dress up in a long time.
"They're very excited and finding any excuse to dress up whether it be a virtual awards night or a lunch out with girlfriends," she said.
