Jamberoo tech entrepreneur and software developer Ray Tubman got the surprise of his life last month when he was told he had won UOW's 2021 Alumni Award for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

Mr Tubman, founder of FinoComp, knew nothing about being nominated until he was contacted by University of Wollongong chancellor Christine McLoughlin who told him he was being recognised for leading-edge technology solutions he developed which have revolutionised the wealth management industry.
"It came as a massive surprise. It was a real shock. I feel really honoured," he said.
After graduating from UOW with a Bachelor of Mathematics in 1988 the former Corrimal High School student moved to the United Kingdom where he led the London-based technology team managing British Airways' pensions software.
When he returned to Australia his entrepreneurial journey began when he co-founded InfoComp in Wollongong and designed Composer, a ground-breaking integrated administration platform for wealth management companies.
Composer provided a leading funds administration solution and was chosen as the platform of choice for large blue-chip firms such as Blackrock, Credit Suisse, Macquarie Bank and JPMorgan.
Mr Tubman led InfoComp's international expansion and remained head of wealth management product strategy when GBST acquired the Wollongong business in 2007.
In 2015, he left GBST and founded Illawarra-based software company FinoComp with a vision to disrupt the wealth management sector.
The citation stated that FinoComp's game-changing microservices technology replaced traditional solutions with scalable, nimble microservices, delivering unparalleled integration, functionality and flexibility for top-tier clients worldwide.
The award recognised Mr Tubman for the way he anticipated client needs and acknowledged him being internationally recognised with FinoComp making both Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 companies in Australia and the global WEALTHTECH 100.
