NSW Ambulance said it appeared the man was on a ladder cutting a palm tree when it toppled onto him.
He was trapped under both the tree and the ladder before paramedics and other emergency services were called to the scene in Koloona Avenue shortly before 2.20pm on Thursday.
Emergency crews freed the man before a doctor assessed him at the scene.
He was then flown by helicopter to St George Hospital in what was believed to be a serious but stable condition.
