Ilija Dokic appealed one of his six-month automatic suspensions in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday where he asked for leniency, claiming he had a "good driving record for four months".

The court heard the 26-year-old was detected travelling 208km/h in an 80km/h zone along the WestConnex on May 22 this year.

He was then caught by the same camera eight days later travelling at 147km/h.

On both occasions Dokic was speeding because he was late to his acting improvisation class.

Defence lawyer Analise Ritchie conceded her client had a bad driving record, with five speeding matters since 2018 and also noted the seriousness of the offence.

Ms Ritchie said Dokic's parents had separated prior to the incidents but he accepted he had "done the wrong thing" and paid the fine.

Dokic claimed he needed his licence to go to work at Kmart in Figtree and to pursue his passion for acting by going to classes.

The court also heard he was involved in the Rotary Club where he "gives back to the community".

The Roads and Maritime lawyer opposed Dokic's application to have his suspension reduced noting his bad traffic record which included two offences for exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h.

She noted if Dokic had been caught by a police officer he likely would have been charged with driving at a dangerous speed, which was a more serious crime.

The lawyer said he should have considered his need for a licence before speeding and caused the suspension himself.

She also added the magistrate should send a message that there were consequences for road users who travelled so fast.

Magistrate Brett Thomas said he understood Dokic's need for a licence but did "not know what he was thinking" when he decided to speed. He reduced Dokic's licence suspension from six months to five.

Magistrate Thomas told Dokic he would have to be off the road for a further six months after he served his suspension due to the May 30 speeding offence.
