The NSW-based side remain unbeaten after two rounds of the A-Leagues season, following up their 1-1 draw with Macarthur with a 2-1 victory over the Central Coast Mariners in Wollongong on the weekend.
Wellington will now shift their attention to their next assignment - facing the Wanderers in the Illawarra.
"The boys are confident and really happy with the start to the season. One of our main goals for this season was to start well, pick up points and go from there," Phoenix defender James McGarry said.
"It was a little bit interesting coming back to Wollongong (on the weekend). Obviously we spent the majority of our time here last season and it felt a bit weird to be back, but it was also awesome. We're used to the pitch, we're used to the stadium. The weather was a little bit wild so it was almost like being home in Wellington."
The win means that Wellington now remain unbeaten in their past A-Leagues 13 games. That streak dates back until April 2021, when the side fell 3-2 to eventual premiers Melbourne City.
McGarry said the Phoenix had continued to grow in confidence.
"We go into every game wanting to win and get the three points. But we also don't want to lose games, a point is better than nothing. I think that's what we've taken pride in," he said.
"When the game's 1-1 after 80 minutes, sometimes it's about grinding it out, defending well, taking the point and moving on."
While the Phoenix men's prepare for round three, the club's A-League Women's side are focusing on their inaugural game this Friday.
Wellington's clash with Western Sydney will launch the women's season and will be a curtain raiser to the Phoenix's men's game.
"I know there's a lot of young talented women's footballers in New Zealand who were waiting for an opportunity. It's fantastic for the club and New Zealand football," McGarry said.
"It's awesome that they're down in Wollongong, obviously we were there last season and had awesome support from the local fans, so I think it will be a perfect place to start for them."
