The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District is reminding the community to remain vigilant and continue to come forward for COVID-19 testing and vaccination as a new strain of the coronavirus arrives in the state from the southern part of Africa.

The health district recorded six new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday night. Five of those cases were found in the Wollongong Local Government Area and three of those were linked to known cases.
There were two cases in the 2500 postcode while the 2516, 2518 and 2526 postcodes each had one new case. There was also one case in the Shoalhaven's 2540 postcode where investigations are ongoing.
Since June there have now been 2,534 cases of COVID-19 in the local health district.
The Illawarra community is also being advised of new rules for returning travellers regarding the new variant of concern.
All travellers arriving in NSW who have been in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini, Malawi, and the Seychelles during the 14-day period before their arrival in NSW must enter hotel quarantine for 14 days, irrespective of their vaccination status.
And any travellers who has been in any other overseas country during the 14 day period before their arrival in NSW must travel directly to their place of residence or accommodation and isolate for 72 hours, pending further health advice.
