Wellington announced that the former Glory goalkeeper - who was the team's inaugural player signing last month - would lead the team in their first A-League Women's campaign, which kicks off on Friday against the Wanderers at WIN Stadium.
Alfeld was voted into the role by her teammates, with Katie Taylor named as the side's first vice-captain.
"That's probably what I'm most proud of, that it was player chosen. It gives me that confidence going forward that they see me as someone who can lead the team and help us get the most out of our games," Alfeld, 26, said.
"It's an honour to have that role in our first season. It's my first time captaining at a professional level, in a season where so much is new, this will also be new to me. But I have a great support system around me that will help me find my feet."
