Parent Peter Orton said his sons Liam, 12 and Cameron and Blake, both aged 10, were "very excited' to attend the party at Symbio Wildlife Park.

"They've walked around, seen the animals, and were happy to sit beside Santa for a photo," he said.

"It's been really good to be able to get out of the house and back into the community. They're all smiles, and that's the important thing."

Planning for the annual Christmas party usually starts in July, but this year the state was in lockdown, with no clear timeline to a more normal setting.

Spokesperson Emily Wright said it took a team effort to pull the event together on short notice.

"When restrictions started to lift around September we were all systems go," she said.

"It was a big effort to pull together in eight weeks.

We have bubbles, crafts, photos with santa, sensory tents, obstacle courses, two live stage shows and singers, dancers and princesses roaming around.

"Every child gets a shirt, a toy and a lunch pack."

Founded in 2004, KidsWish Foundation merged with the Disability Trust Group earlier this year. The charity arm of the KidsWish Foundation continues to operate under its own entity as a charitable fundraising organisation.

Plant Room Cafe at the Disability Trust, Steel City Beverages, We Rock the Spectrum, the Sensory Studio and Leisure Coast all made donations to support the event.
