Adrian Jovanovski, 26, was also caught speeding away from police, veering onto the wrong side of the road before crashing into a front yard in October.
In agreed facts tendered to Wollongong Local Court yesterday, police said the West Wollongong man was seen driving a grey Audi sedan towards them on Mount Keira Road about 1.45pm on October 5.
Police saw the driver was wearing a black singlet and officers recognised Jovanovski from previous driving incidents.
Police attempted to stop Jovanovski but he accelerated harshly as he turned onto Hunt Street in West Wollongong before travelling onto Poulter Street.
Jovanovski again quickly accelerated away and police were unable to catch up. Officers saw Jovanovski manoeuvre onto the wrong side of the road, avoiding another car, before he turned left.
A short time later police found the car crashed into the front yard of a home on Robsons Road, Keiraville with Jovanovski standing outside next to the driver's side.
He was wearing a black singlet before he claimed he "came down from my house to help" but changed his story, claiming he was a passenger "but I was lying down in the seat".
Jovanovski was disqualified from driving at the time until February next year.
He was arrested and charged with not stopping his car when directed to do so, driving recklessly/furiously in a dangerous manner and driving a car while disqualified.
The court also heard Jovanovski was found driving, while disqualified, on September 10 at Lake Heights.
Officers stopped him in Figtree on September 20 after following his motorbike into a car park as it did not have plates attached. Jovanovski was told not to drive the bike home but was seen leaving on it a short time later.
He was also found driving with a passenger on September 21 at Berkeley. On two of those occasions he breached COVID-19 directions.
In court yesterday, police prosecutor Sergeant David Weaver said it was only through "sheer luck" no one, including Jovanovski, was hurt, adding he appeared to be "someone who doesn't do what he is told".
Defence lawyer Analise Ritchie said her client's driving record was poor and he had blatantly breached the law yet at the time he was struggling with his mental health after the breakdown of a 10-year relationship.
She also noted his drug use had increased and Jovanovski would need help to stay clean once released from custody.
Magistrate Claire Girotto said she did not like sending people to jail for driving offences but Jovanovski had showed "flagrant disregard" for the rules.
Jovanovski was sentenced to 10 months in jail with a non-period of four months. He will be eligible for release in February.
He will then be subject to a community corrections order for 12 months and disqualified from driving for 18 months.
