The swim and run from Wollongong's Belmore Basin has been a perfect preparation event for some of the top triathletes in the country, including Olympians Aaron Royle, Ryan Bailie and Jake Birtwhistle.
And it returns on Australia Day, January 26, after being cancelled for the first time in its 22-year existence in 2021, because of ongoing COVID concerns.
This time Paralympian Jonathan Goerlach is the event ambassador, helping to inspire the next generation of talent.
While the Australian triathlon training base is no longer in Wollongong, Battocchio said the Illawarra and southern Sydney academy athletes will be among those looking to show off their ability in the public eye next month.
"We've been really fortunate to see superstars on the international stage show what they're capable of in the Aquathon," he said.
"Aaron Royle and Grace Musgrove are among those who were sighted at Aquathon and scouted to go on to do big things.
"So it's a really big opportunity for some of the young athletes to showcase what they can do and we'll see a lot of under 23 and under 18 academy people in the event."
Battocchio revealed a new five-kilometre fun run and walk along the Blue Mile will be added to the schedule, as well as the kids, mini, short and long Aquathon races.
"We've partnered with Lifeline South Coast, as we want to be a strong advocate for mental health and the benefits of exercise," he said.
"COVID has been tough on everybody over the past couple of years and so the Aquathon offers an event for people of all abilities to work towards and enjoy the journey toward being part of it.
"And you can compete individually or as a two-person relay, so we cater for everyone.
"Rain, hail or shine, the Aquathon is going to be on and a chance to get out there and get active."
