A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged assault at Wollongong on the weekend.

Shortly after 3.15am on Sunday emergency services were called to a hotel on Burelli Street, Wollongong, following reports of an assault.
Police were told a 23-year-old man was allegedly punched by another man, causing him to fall backwards, hit his head on the concrete and become unconscious.
The other man fled the scene in the company of a second unknown man.
The 23-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital with serious head injuries. He has since been released.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, a 22-year-old man attended Wollongong Police Station on Thursday morning where he was arrested.
The Albion Park man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was given conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on January 18, 2022.
