6 Festivals will hit cinemas in 2022 before moving to streaming service Paramount+ (the first Australian film commissioned for the service), and is written and directed by Macario de Souza (Bra Boys, Fighting Fear).
The feature film tells the story of three best friends Maxie, Summer and James as they bucket-list six music festivals over six months, whilst coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis.
De Souza said making 6 Festivals is the realisation of his childhood and professional experiences to date.
"Music festivals have had a profound impact on my life," he said.
"Having myself performed on festival stages in Australia and around the world as artist Kid Mac, I feel I am in a very unique position to make a film that is authentically representative of our youth and music culture."
Actors and a film crew were staged at the Yours and Owls Festival at North Dalton Park in April 2021, with the fictional plot mixed in with a real and live backdrop.
In recent weeks the crew filmed more scenes in Wollongong and Berry.
Some of the nations finest musical acts will feature in cameo appearances (as themselves), including Hockey Dad, G Flip, Dune Rats, Alison Wonderland, Bliss n Eso, Peking Duk, PNAU, Example, Hooligan Hefs, The Amity Affliction, JessB, B Wise and Running Touch.
It's understood a selection of emerging artists from the Illawarra and surrounds will also have a spot in the limelight during the film.
Other major events to also appear include Lost Paradise in Glenworth Valley, the Big Pineapple at the Sunshine Coast and Lunar Electric on the Gold Coast.
The movie has received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Paramount+. Financed with support from Sony Music, with Boom Smash, Screen Canberra and Screen Queensland.
Paramount+ debuted in Australia in August.
