Corrimal-based adventure tourism outfit Blue Sky Adventures has been given council approval for a 12-month trial to run its skydiving business on Shellharbour South Beach.

The council's letter of approval, sighted by the Mercury, lists 26 conditions of consent, which will allow the business to operate seven days a week and offer up to 12 tandem skydive sessions a day.

All associated signage and infrastructure, including a beachside check-in tent, must be removed at the end of every day.

The brains behind the new venture are Corrimal couple Megan Crombie and Robert Verner - himself a 30-year veteran of the industry and who worked at Skydive The Beach prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Crombie said Beachside Skydive had been in the planning stage for two years, but the couple decided to act on their dream after Mr Verner was let go from Skydive The Beach.

"This time last year we had our first meeting with [Shellharbour] council," she said. "It's been in process for over year now and we've worked really hard to get things together. We're pretty excited about it all."

Ms Crombie said the family will have sunk about $100,000 into the business by the time they are ready to fly in early April.

As for claims they are muscling in on Skydive The Beach's territory, Ms Crombie said she believed competition was good for both the industry and customers.

"Competition brings better service and better prices for customers," she said.
