A Wollongong man accused of repeatedly calling his ex-partner and sending her "nasty" messages in violation of an apprehended violence order has been released from custody on conditional bail.

The alleged victim had ended her three-month relationship with Augusto Andres Sassi, 39, in mid-December, however police will allege Sassi refused to accept the romance was over, and continued to contact her, even after officers warned him off.
Sassi was arrested on Thursday while reporting to police on bail for a separate matter.
He was charged with two counts of contravening an AVO and remanded in custody overnight.
He was granted conditional bail in Wollongong Local Court on Friday morning after promising to report to police three times a week and not contact the woman again.
Court documents reveal Sassi was served with the AVO on December 14, however allegedly ignored its contents and continued ringing the woman.
He allegedly sent her a series of "nasty in nature" text messages - which have since been deleted - in which he tried to guilt her into rekindling their romance.
Meanwhile, police were at the woman's house on December 21 carrying out an AVO compliance check when Sassi allegedly rang the woman's phone.
When officers answered the phone, the caller denied he was Sassi, instead saying his name was Aaron and he was calling from Sassi's phone.
Officers warned him against continuing to make the calls, then left the property.
However, it is alleged Sassi called the woman a further 13 times in less than six hours the following day, at one stage asking her why she hadn't had the AVO altered so they could legally speak to each other.
The woman told police she repeatedly told Sassi the relationship was over and not to call her again.
Sassi did not enter a plea to the charges when he fronted court on Friday, however he told the registrar through his lawyer he had been due to go into hospital for an operation, which had been cancelled, and he'd contact the woman after going into "panic mode".
Police opposed Sassi's application for bail, saying they held fears for the safety of the alleged victim, however the registrar agreed to grant Sassi conditional bail.
The matter will return to court next year for a plea to be entered.
