The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District has recorded 13 patients in hospital as a result of COVID-19 and 125 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Sunday, December 26.

There were 75 new cases from the Wollongong Local Government Area (LGA), 27 from Shellharbour LGA, five from the Shoalhaven LGA and 18 from Kiama LGA.
It comes as three deaths related to COVID were recorded across NSW and there were 6324 new cases across the state. One man has become the first known death from the Omicron strain.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven has reported 3745 total community acquired COVID-19 cases since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

The health district has reminded members of the public to get tested if they have symptoms or area close contact of a person with COVID-19.
A spokesperson said: "When testing clinics are busy, please ensure you stay in line, identify yourself to staff and tell them that you have symptoms or are a contact of a case."
