Police will allege Glen Barrie Horlock and the victim got into a dispute over the ownership of a black suitcase, resulting in him pulling her to the ground, throwing a laptop computer at her and then kicking her in the face.
Court documents said the incident was captured on the station's CCTV footage, which allegedly shows the force of the kick causing the woman's head to "vigorously jolt backwards".
Rail staff intervened and Horlock left the station, with a subsequent police search of the area failing to locate him.
He was arrested on January 4, charged with affray and remanded in custody.
Horlock appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday , where defence lawyer Jonathan Kearney applied for bail on his behalf, despite opposition from police.
He said Horlock denied kicking the woman and intended to plead not guilty to the offence.
He confirmed Horlock could live with his parents in Unanderra and put forward a surety if released.
Magistrate Chris McRobert noted Horlock's intended plea, but refused bail on account of the seriousness of the allegations levelled against the 43-year-old, who he said had a record of prior violence.
"He allegedly pulls her to the ground ... and while she's on the ground, kicks her in the face," he said.
"He's previously served a period of imprisonment for assault occasioning actual bodily harm."
He said the case against Horlock appeared to be a strong one and if he was convicted, there was a high likelihood of a prison sentence.
Court documents said Horlock was seen entering the railway station just after 10am on December 23, pulling a large black suitcase.
The alleged victim approached Horlock and the pair both sat on platform 2 for a short time, before moving to the waiting room.
It is alleged the woman can be seen on the CCTV footage to grab at the suitcase, before the two struggle with each other to take hold of it.
Horlock allegedly grabbed the woman by the wrist and used his right forearm to push her in the face in an attempt to get her to let go of the suitcase.
A witness can be seen trying to intervene on the woman's behalf, however she appears to push him away.
Both Horlock and the woman then let go of the suitcase, at which time Horlock allegedly hit the woman in the head multiple times and pulled her hair.
It is alleged he then forced her to the ground, took a laptop from the bag and threw it at her, before kicking her in the face with his right leg.
The court heard Horlock abandoned the bag when he left the station. It was later seized by police.
Meanwhile, the woman also left the station a short time later after being assisted by rail staff.
The matter will return to court next month.
