Glen Ryan McSpadyen was already on bail for four separate domestic violence offences involving his ex-partner when he allegedly ripped the bathroom door from its hinges on Monday afternoon, prompting his mother and sister to call triple zero and seek refuge in a flat at the rear of the property.
McSpadyen was arrested and charged with property damage offences.
He was remanded in custody overnight and faced Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday where he sought release on bail.

Defence lawyer Graeme Morrison told the court McSpadyen could live with his sister in Albion Park.
He said McSpadyen had mental health issues and was under the care of a psychiatrist.
"This is an exhibition of his mental state at the time," Mr Morrison said.
The court heard McSpadyen demanded his mother allow him to use the car, and when she refused, he erupted.
"It would appear this has been the catalyst for the explosive fit of rage that followed," court documents said.
It is alleged McSpadyen made his way through the home, smashing various items including the bathroom door, which was kicked off its hinges.
His mother and sister contacted police, who arrived a short time later.
Magistrate Greg Elks refused to grant McSpadyen bail in court on Tuesday on account of his prior criminal record.
The case will return to court in two weeks.
