A police operation is underway to locate a woman believed to be missing in floodwaters near Lismore in northern NSW.

Alina Brakel, aged 55, is described as being of Asian appearance, 150-160 centimetres tall with a thin build, and has black and red long hair.
NSW Police Force Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar said the Nowra woman was working in the Lismore area as an aged care nurse.

He said she was driving a 2017 white Holden Captiva when she reportedly became trapped in floodwaters on Tuesday night, and called for help.
About 9.50pm on Tuesday March 29, emergency services commenced a search and rescue operation near Wyrallah Road at Monaltrie, south of Lismore, after reports a woman had been trapped in her vehicle by floodwaters.
Police spent several hours searching for the woman and her vehicle, however have been unable to locate her.
Officers from Richmond Police District - with assistance from Police Rescue, Water Police and NSW SES volunteers - recommenced a search and rescue operation on Wednesday morning, March 30, in the vicinity of Wyrallah Road.
As emergency service operations continue, police are urging anyone who may have seen a 2017 white Holden Captiva station wagon, with NSW registration YHS 51F, in the greater Lismore area to contact police immediately.
Police also remind people within flood affected areas to never enter, walk, ride or drive through floodwaters.
