Mark Segawa, 28, faced Wollongong Local Court on Friday charged with intimidation and breaching an apprehended domestic violence order.
Documents tendered to court said Segawa and the woman had been friends for years and were in an intimate relationship, but there was an AVO in place to protect her from Segawa.
On Wednesday, the woman called Segawa to come over to her Woonona house, which he did about 12pm.
Segawa was angry and in a bad mood and the pair got into an argument before he allegedly knocked over a lamp prompting the woman to ask him to leave.
Segawa allegedly continued abusing her but he eventually left and she called Triple-0. Soon after, the woman received a call from Segawa where he allegedly warned her not to call police and he became more angry when she told him she had already reported the incident.
Police later arrived at her house and took a statement from the woman who allegedly explained she was fearful of Segawa and was intimidated by what he said or if would return to her house.
She allegedly admitted to police that she knew if Segawa came to her house he would be breaching the AVO but explained she loved him.
While police were at the house, Segawa called the woman and an officer asked him to go to the police station. Segawa presented himself the next day where he was charged.
The court heard Segawa was already on bail for another matter.
In court on Friday, defence lawyer Laura Fennell said Segawa had a limited criminal history, but noted he did not believe he was breaching the AVO if the woman asked him to attend her house.
She noted Segawa was working as an alcohol marshall at a pub, and was house surfing while he found stable accommodation, but did have family living in Wollongong.
Segawa pleaded with the Registrar Cally D'Arcy to be released because he wanted to see his daughter this weekend.
However, she refused to grant bail noting Segawa had been charged with three domestic violence offences.
The case will return to court on Tuesday.
