Online voting enrolment for this year's federal election closes at 8pm, with voters urged to add or update their details before the deadline.
University of Wollongong student Ella Dodds-Mah, 19, is joining thousands of Australians voting for the first time this election, and she's urging people her age to enrol.
At the end of March, more than 85 per cent of young Australians aged 18 to 25 had signed up to cast their vote, but the group lags behind the whole population enrolment rate of 96.5 per cent.
"I enrolled to vote before I even turned 18," Ms Dodds-Mah said.
"I'm now 19 and more excited than ever to vote for this federal election," she said.
"It is so important for young people to vote because this election will affect us and for many more years to come."
Ms Dodds-Mah said young people should take voting seriously, and view the election as a chance to have their say on issues they are passionate about.
"Making an educated voting choice is also crucial, having a look at what parties are offering is important in finding what party suits your values more," she said.
"I know a lot of young Australians have the mindset that their vote doesn't count at all, but I know that if thousands of people hold that mindset and vote without caring, it can massively change the federal election outcomes."
The federal election will happen on Saturday, May 21.
