The event will feature an eclectic range of artists like Harmony Byrne, Joe Mungovan, Stumps and Drink Mums as well as art exhibitions and light installations colouring the streets.
It's been organised by event management duo Harrison Hall of Holy Pavlova, with a $20,000 helping hand from Wollongong City Council.
"One of our goals for this year is to see [our strong and growing music and dining culture] spread throughout our suburbs with the help of outdoor dining, grants, and other council support," said Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery.
"This event will also offer an opportunity for six local businesses in Port Kembla to showcase themselves to our broader community and visitors who are chasing the live music."
Standing on the Ceiling - a collaborative project facilitated by the council - will be one of the performances as part of the festival which invites the public to learn a song to publicly sing and dance to it.
Facilitating composer, Jodi Phillis said the aim was to bring together the region's rich, diverse community through music, dance and spoken word.
"I wrote the song Move To the Beat to express the beating heart of Port Kembla and surrounds, here on Dharawal Country and to unite everyone living in this beautiful region," she said.
The Port Kembla Festival is an all ages event and kicks off at 2pm on Saturday, April 23. Entry is free but tickets are mandatory, register through Moshtix.com.
Organisers have said tickets do not guarantee entry once venues reach capacity.
