Born last week to second-time mum Chitwa and male lion Baaku, the new cub is the baby brother of two-year-old Phoenix.

Mogo Wildlife Park's Zookeeper Chad told the Bay Post keepers are yet to find out of the cub is male or female; they will decide on a fitting name in the coming weeks.

So far, they have been monitoring Chitwa and her cub on camera.

Zookeeper Chad said the team is "besotted at the new arrival, and Chitwa is a textbook mum".

Later this week, keepers will complete further health checks on mum and bub. They will continue to monitor Chitwa and her cub in the meantime, and are excited to watch their progress.

Newly-minted big brother Phoenix has recently found love at Mogo Wildlife Park, moving in to an enclosure with the zoo's young female lion Maji.

While it is still early days for the pair, it seems they are transitioning into their new home well and are 'very amicable', according to keepers.
