The new BlueScope Distribution site brings semi-finished components closer to customers in the Illawarra, and is one of 15 similar sites around Australia.
The facility will provide BlueScope Distribution customers with plate processing capability, a dedicated project management team and access to local technical knowhow.
Projects delivered from the site range from major defence acquisitions, to energy infrastructure and transport and agricultural projects.
General manager BlueScope Distribution Sam Gerovasilis said the facility would enable customers to deal with a single provider.
"We are a single source supplier of sovereign capability. We provide steel and aluminium, design processing outcomes rather than just standard products, and our semi-finished components can really help the efficiency of those large-scale projects," he said.
National operations manager at BlueScope Distribution Michael McPhan said the location enabled BlueScope to increase capacity where and when needed.
"It enables us to partner with the BlueScope steelworks and BlueScope Distribution other supply partners like Bisalloy Steel, to ensure we can provide a seamless supply chain solution for our customers," he said.
Steel onsite would be sourced locally and internationally to supply the highest quality for customers, with traceability for transparency.
