Here in the Illawarra, we're involved with three of those seats - Cunningham, Gilmore and Whitlam.
As well, there are 421 Senate candidates vying for 40 seats across the states and territories.
When polls close at 6pm, the ballots of more than 17 million voters will start to be counted, including those of more than five million people who voted early.
Voting in Australia is mandatory for all eligible citizens.
