The accident happened at 10.30pm, about five kilometres from the Mt Ousley Road intersection.
A four-wheel-drive, towing a yacht on a trailer, ran out of petrol on the east-bound side of Picton Road and pulled over to the side of the road.
However a 4WD travelling east clipped the trailer - which had no lights - in the dark. A second 4WD ran into the yacht and trailer, splintering the boat and tipping it on its side.
The passenger in the second 4WD, a 21-year-old man, was treated for a fractured ankle and was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
Ambulance officers said he was lucky to escape further injury, as the impact of the crash had stripped back the passenger door and twisted the seat so that it faced the door.
Four other people were treated at the scene but did not require transportation to hospital.
Police, ambulance and Rural Fire Service officers attended the scene and Picton Road was closed in both directions for about 90 minutes.
The accident comes hard on the heels of a fatality on Picton Road.
On Friday morning, a passenger in a car died in a collision with a truck, at the south-bound Picton Road off-ramp.
Another person in the car was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
