A man was killed after the ute he was working on collapsed and crushed him in his Moss Vale driveway yesterday.Ronald Tanas, 55, died after his Holden HZ ute collapsed on him shortly before 2.30pm.A 19-year-old neighbour ran to Mr Tanas' aid from across the road after he heard screams, but said there was no jack under the car and he was unable to help him.He frantically searched for help at three nearby houses and managed to find two men who got a jack and ran back to the driveway to help the dying man.The group was able to lift the ute off him, however paramedics pronounced Mr Tanas dead at 2.35pm."I just wished I could have helped him," the teenager said."Everyone in the street would have heard (the screams)."It is believed the tail shaft of the rear wheel drive vehicle fell out making the handbrake inoperable and this may have caused the ute to roll back onto Mr Tanas.Neighbours said Mr Tanas, affectionately known as "Bunny", attended St Paul's Primary before moving on to Chevalier College in Burradoo. He worked as mechanical supervisor at Blue Circle Cement in New Berrima for 30 years before his Parkinson's disease meant he had to leave the cement firm in 2001.Mr Tanas lived alone and is survived by his ex-wife and two daughters.
