For the second week in succession, the Griffith Blacks have fallen just short of picking up the points after their trip to Tumut to take on the Bulls on Saturday. The home side took the lead in the third minute of the game, with the Bulls able to make the most of a stretched Blacks defence to score next to the post. Off the back of the Blacks being penalised in the scrum, the Bulls were able to extend their lead off the back of a quick tap with Jonathon Carmody getting over. The Blacks were able to get field position but weren't able to convert, and it looked like the Bulls might have scored a third unanswered before it was pulled back due to a ruck infringement. The score remained unchanged for the remainder of the first half, but the Blacks suffered a huge loss with Mitch White taken from the field after a heavy knock. Blacks coach Chris McGregor was left a bit disappointed by his side's performance in the first half. "We just lacked a bit of enthusiasm in the first half," he said. "We know what we can do we just have to put it together for 80 minutes. "We are sort of only playing half a game at the moment. If you look at it, we won 17-10 in the second half, but we just have to start a bit better." RELATED The Blacks were able to make an immediate impact on their return from the halftime break, with Samuel Viran able to make the most of a gap in the Tumut line and racing 60 metres to score. The margin was brought back to two points just a couple of minutes later, with the Blacks able to make good field position and Blake Theunissen able to barge his way over after a short run at the line. Tumut pushed the margin back to nine points after making the most of the pressure on the Blacks while the injury concerns grew for the Blacks as Thomas Dilks was taken from the field just past the halfway mark of the second half. With two minutes remaining in the game, Bryn Francis scoring under the post and the successful conversion made it a two-point game before the Blacks gave away a penalty 20m out to see Tumut come away with a 22-17 win. There will be a couple of concerns for the Blacks heading into next weekend, especially to Dilks. "He is in a bit of strife. I think he will be out for a while," he said. "He has done his ankle. He was going to hospital last night to get x-rays and everything, but I'm pretty sure he will be out for a fair while. "Hopefully, he (White) will be fine he had a bit of a headache yesterday." The Blacks will return home next weekend to take on Albury. *** Our journalists work hard to provide local, up-to-date news to the community.
