Albion Park reacts to bogan tag: ugg!

Former Miss World Australia Katie Richardson owns a pair of ugg boots but never, under any circumstances, does she wear them outside the house.The brunette beauty might have been born and bred in Albion Park but she certainly ain't no bogan.On Tuesday, the suburb that brought us Hockeyroo Casey Eastham, TV model Mikarla Hussey and Ms Richardson, gained notoriety in a Sydney-based online magazine where it was nominated as one of the nation's bogan capitals.   • Albion Park named in top 10 bogan suburbs Former Mercury scribe and Bulli resident Brett Martin cited Albion Park's nice hard pub, brutal killings and bikie gang as some of the reasons why it deserved the top gong.In response, some residents embraced their new-found status yesterday by hanging a large sign at the village gateway,"Welcome 2 Bogan-ville".Ms Richardson saw the funny side of the nomination too, but defended her home town."Most people living in Albion Park think it's funny because we have really nice schools and nice housing," she said."Every town has bogans and we do have some in Albion Park because I have seen people wear their pyjamas to Woolworths but I don't think we are over-run with them."I have seen more ugg boots in places like Cessnock."She also defended the Albion Park Hotel.Eastham told the Mercury she was proud to come from "Bogan-ville"."I have made a lot of great friends and have so many good memories from there," Eastham said."I attended a great school, Albion Park High School, with fantastic staff. So if being from Albion Park you are considered to be a bogan then I can safely say I am a proud bogan from Albion Park."
