Sam Saffuri has much for other men to envy.Besides the Ned Kelly-esque beard that took him no time to grow, the millionaire property developer has a 93ha stretch of Kiama's most scenic farmland to call home. Now, he also lays claim to a world-ranked set of arm-wrestling "guns" that have created a stir across the globe. The Israeli-born dad was the lone Australian contender at the World Arm Wrestling Championships in Rosalina, Italy earlier this month.Lining up against full-time and full-on Russian arm-wrestlers with just four months' training under his belt, he took out 10th and 11th place for his right and left arms in the Master Men's 80kg category, his effort proving quite the novelty for international media."I have been treated like a celebrity, with people taking photos of me wearing my Australian uniform," Mr Saffuri said. "There were 1600 competitors from 47 countries."My proudest moment was walking out carrying the Australia sign - a team of one."Mr Saffuri visited family in the Illawarra this week, however business commitments keep him away from the region most of the time. The managing director of property group Monopoly, he spends most of his time in Hervey Bay overseeing the creation of 3000 eco-friendly homes, terraces and townhouses. The white-collar world and that of arm-wrestling weren't so far removed, he said."I came here not speaking a word of English, and I educated myself, so I always look outside the square," he said.Mr Saffuri left Israel when he was 18 and came to Kiama about six years ago. In 2006 he added the East family property, off Weir St, to his portfolio.
