Bulli flood threat

About 130 Bulli homes will be evacuated this afternoon in anticipation of flash flooding.The State Emergency Service has anticipated that the old Bulli mine site dam will fail if the level of rain predicted eventuates this afternoon.Emergency crews are door-knocking 130 homes around the Slacky Flat Creek area.Bulli Public School students have already evacuated to Bulli High School.Bulli High School principal Bruce Sander said he had been advised about noon by the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) and the SES that the safest thing to do would be to transfer students from Bulli Public School to the high school.‘‘They are currently in our hall and the DET has made every effort to contact parents,’’ Mr Sander said.‘‘A large number (of parents) have now collected their children.’’Students will remain at the high school this afternoon until they are collected by parents. Anyone concerned can call the high school on 4284 8266.At 4pm today there were no road closures and public transport had not been affected.An information centre has been opened to support the SES and can provide information about displaced families, road closures and welfare assistance.Those who have been evacuated are being cared for at the Thirroul Library and Neighbourhood Centre and the Woonona-Bulli RSL Club.The Public Information and Inquiry Centre phone number is 1800 227 228Residents were advised to monitor the SES websiteor call 132 500.Drivers travelling south this afternoon were urged to monitor the RTA website or call 131 500 for updated traffic information.
