Car plunges into Shoalhaven River, one dead

A 30-year-old man is dead and his 34-year-old female passenger is in hospital after a car left the Princes Hwy and plunged into the Shoalhaven River last night.Police divers were brought in to search for a third person they suspected was missing.The incident occurred about 7.30pm near the junction with Illaroo Rd at Bomaderry.A fisherman who saw the woman struggling in the water went to her assistance.Police allege the car went into the river after a collision with a Ford Falcon.The stricken car left the road and crashed through a fence and went down an embankment. Witnesses said there were flames coming from it before it hit the water.The Falcon allegedly collided with a third vehicle.Fire Brigade officers donned breathing apparatus in an attempt to rescue the trapped driver.
