In today's heady world, a lot of relationships form over a few or more drinks at the local drinking hole. After slurred conversations, couples-that-might-be exchange phone numbers or perhaps stagger in the same direction. But Skulpt South Coast owner and trainer Jackee Martinez wants to offer people something different - a chance to meet outside in the fresh air, outside the pubs and clubs - with their new 10-week program for singles and couples - Summer Crush."(The program) is a chance for people that like to work out to meet in a healthy environment, not intoxicated and not at risk of bad things happening to them."It is also perfectly timed for those wanting to get a trim, taut and terrific bod ahead of the swimsuit season.A distaste for the binge drinking culture in Wollongong and the bad sexual decisions that can flow on from being intoxicated has motivated Martinez to develop the program."(Some of my) friends are just not finding new relationships, they're finding people in the wrong environment or while out being intoxicated."I hear a lot of feedback from young girls and older girls who make a lot of mistakes after they go out and party, thinking that they are going to have this relationship with a guy. It doesn't always work out that way."Then you see how it effects their self-esteem."Summer Crush fits in with Skulpt's philosophy of simultaneously working out your body and your mind.It is as much about getting fit and healthy as it is about changing attitudes - Martinez would love to see punters trade a schooner or a wine glass for joggers and boxing gloves. The trainer wants couples to think about how they spend their free time together and singles to think about their priorities.Working out together gives couples a chance to have time out from their busy lives and to rekindle a dwindling flame by setting time aside to spend together and by getting the body pumping and the endorphins flowing. The activities range from boxing and core conditioning to tug-of-war."At Skulpt the activities are always different, whether it be the location or the activity."For a lot of activities, people are paired up. Couples work out together and other pairs are formed. It is the first time that Skulpt has run Summer Crush. The program, which kicked off on October 19, has already attracted a broad range of people. Some are there to lose weight, some there to find a special somebody, some just want to add spice to their regular fitness routine and other's just want to have fun.The program is run in the lead-up to summer so people can have fun outside in the sun."There's nothing more detoxifying than being in the outdoors training in the sun, training in a group with friends. It's just fun," Martinez says. Some people may feel self-conscious about donning the lycra and getting sweaty in front of a group of potentials. But Martinez wants to encourage the formation of real friendships void of the superficial."Eventually they are going to have to see you without your make-up, let's face it," she says."These people see you for face value. Imagine when they see you when you are done up and you are looking fabulous. This is all about forming friendships and eventually down the track hopefully a relationship that lasts."Ultimately Summer Crush is about forming or strengthening healthy relationships in a healthy environment."The aim is to have fun, train and exercise and to create a new social network for people to meet."
