Kogarah death fails to dampen Dragons fans' spirits

Fans at St George Leagues Club were determined to celebrate their team's success yesterday, despite the dark cloud cast by the death of Steven Bosevski.Kogarah man Brad Swadling said he had spotted some trouble at the venue during the early hours of the morning."I saw the cops run past but I walked out after that and it went quiet," he said." I don't want to see that after a good day."

  • Full coverage of the Dragons Mr Swadling said that he intended to make the most of the grand final win."I've been a Dragons fan since I was born - I'm red and white for life," he said."I'm heading down to Wollongong now - we'll probably be celebrating for the next couple of months."The Heath family, from Barton Ridge, watched the game at ANZ Stadium before racing back to Kogarah to join the partying crowds."It was getting a bit crazy, they were all on the highway, so that's when we decided to come home," Colleen Heath said.Daughter Kylie said she had stayed up until 2am watching the replay - and was planning a second viewing yesterday afternoon.The Heaths were among a crowd of fans who were queuing to purchase a premiers T-shirt from the Dragons store at St George Leagues Club.Belinda Balanidas, from Voyager Point, said spirits were still high among fans."I was out at the grandstand last night and the atmosphere was awesome," she said."Now we're all excited for the season to come."Zoran and Stephanie Delovski, from Dulwich Hill, were up until 4am yesterday and said the rain could not dampen the atmosphere."We celebrated last night for the past 31 years - it was sensational," Mr Delovski said. "The fans came together all as one."Wayne Gilbert, of Beacon Hill, spent the evening at Stanwell Park watching the game with family."The atmosphere was pretty electric - we're all mad Dragons fans," he said."We were ecstatic. Afterwards, we rang a few Roosters fans and had some roast chicken."Mr Gilbert is now a proud owner of a premiers T-shirt, clearly a prized possession."This is not coming off for the next week," he said.
