American rocker Meat Loaf last night appeared to have shaken off his dire performance at Saturday’s AFL grand final, delivering an impassioned, hit-laden show at WIN Entertainment Centre.The 64-year-old had the crowd on their feet for much of the two-hour gig, kicking off with the song Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul from the classic movie Rocky Horror Picture Show, in which the singer starred. The vocal troubles which plagued him during Saturday’s performance appeared to have dissipated somewhat, although the star was far from pitch perfect in some of the more challenging songs. The singer, whose performance at Saturday’s AFL grand final left footy fans underwhelmed and social commentators declaring he had passed his best-before date, mixed old hits with songs from his new album Hell in a Handbasket.Meat Loaf’s sold-out Wollongong show drew fans from near and far.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou came out in support of the veteran performer on Sunday, as did promoter Frontier Touring, who told the Mercury it was ‘‘not concerned at all’’ about the star’s pulling power despite Saturday’s performance.‘‘His shows are always well reviewed,’’ a Frontier spokeswoman said.Subscribe now for unlimited access.
