It's a subject close to the heart of all women - yet say the two words "bra fitting" and a grimace is the usual response. But University of Wollongong academic Deirdre McGhee is on a one-woman mission to change all that.Dr McGhee is calling for volunteers for a study that aims to put a stop to the pain, discomfort and confusion of shopping for new brassieres and which so often continues afterwards, due to an incorrect fit.The lack of standardised sizing can make shopping for a new bra an absolute nightmare.Dr McGhee, a qualified physiotherapist, hopes the study will provide guidelines for a national standard, and she is calling on Illawarra women to do their bit to ease the suffering of their sisters."So many of the women I was treating as a physio were coming to me with back, neck and shoulder problems caused by an incorrectly fitted bra," she said."So many women think that once they have found a comfortable bra, they can go ahead and buy the same bra in three different colours."But even that is not safe because underwear is dyed after it is made and that changes the shape of the bra ... you have to try on every bra."Dr McGhee needs 100 women to participate in the study this month, which involves visiting the university for a private, one-on-one 30-minute measurement session with her. And, as a thankyou to participants, Dr McGhee will share with the lucky women her secrets on how to get the perfect fit. If you are interested in taking part during December, telephone Dr McGhee on 4221 4980.
