Port Kembla has been named as one of eight rock-fishing black spots in the state.These are some recent rock fishing accidents on the South Coast:
July 2009: A 28-year-old man is believed to have drowned after he was washed off rocks while fishing at Port Kembla. March 2009: A 71-year-old father from Strathfield drowned while fishing late at night at Honeycomb Rocks at Port Kembla.March 2008 - Fisherman washed off Honeycomb Rocks, Port Kembla, was saved when a fellow fisherman threw him a life ring.December 2007 - Father-of-four Sadiq Daalag of Lake Illawarra, vowed to never pick up a rod again after he was swept into the ocean while rock fishing at Port Kembla. Mr Daalag spent 90 minutes in the water before being rescued.April 2006 - A 34-year-old Canley Vale man died after he was swept into the water while rock fishing at Port Kembla. The accident occurred during a weekend of rough seas and big swells.January 2006 - Chao Kuang Yang, 42, of Prospect, drowned after being washed off rocks while fishing on the western side of Black Head at Gerroa.April 2004 - A Greenacre man, 52, was swept off rocks at Marley Beach in the Royal National Park. His body was found at Werrong Beach near Otford the following day.April 2002 - Seven Hills man Kang Suk Lee was swept to his death off Honeycomb Rocks. A life ring, usually located near where the 52-year-old was swept into the water, was missing. A coronial inquest found the man's body had drifted for 10 days before being swallowed by a tiger shark, which was later caught off Lake Macquarie.May 2000 - Van Vui Tran and his wife, Thi Hong Lee, both 47, drowned while they were fishing off Honeycomb Rocks. January 1998 - A 25-year-old fisherman spent 40 minutes in treacherous seas after being swept off Honeycomb Rocks. The man suffered hypothermia. Rescuers had to untangle his legs from nylon fishing line.
