Two cotton-top tamarins have been stolen from a zoo in a crime echoing the theft of eight monkeys from Helensburgh's Symbio Wildlife Park.A male and a pregnant female cotton-top tamarin were stolen from Alma Park Zoo, Brisbane, on Saturday night.Thieves cut into the enclosure of the highly endangered monkeys that were part of an international breeding program. The crime follows the theft of four tamarins and four pygmy marmosets from Symbio in June.Symbio owner John Radnidge said in the case of the Brisbane monkeys, the pair seemed to have been specifically targeted."The two stolen were not isolated animals, there were other cotton-tops in the area but they took only the breeding pair," Mr Radnidge said."I am very concerned for their health and well-being. It's pretty horrible."Seven of the Symbio monkeys were returned to the zoo within a week of their theft. One other, Rico, has never been found.Shafi Ibrahim, 18, of Baulkham Hills has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to the handling and dumping of the rare monkeys.Mr Radnidge said he hoped Alma Park Zoo would see their monkeys returned too.
