A woman who was given court permission at age 16 to marry her 26-year-old husband says a Wollongong court was right to deny a 16-year-old pregnant Warilla girl the same right.NSW north coast couple Lucinda Law (now Ramsay) and IT specialist Glen Ramsay were last year given the green light to wed by Lismore magistrate Nicholas Reimer."Our reason to marry was to live under God honourably together, which we could not do without marriage," Mrs Ramsay posted on the Mercury website.
Teens disheartened by marriage ban Pregnant teen can't wed lover: court Editorial: young lovers deserve dignity of marriage "We were granted permission and married in February 2009."Up to that point, the couple's religious beliefs prohibited them from consummating their relationship, even though they were very much in love.On Thursday, Warilla teenage mum-to-be Emma Gregory was refused permission to marry her baby's father, 18-year-old Steven Megson."I support a young couple wanting to live right under God, but to set a double-standard after she has fallen pregnant will not be convincing for a judge," Mrs Ramsay said."I do pray they are blessed, whatever happens to them, but feel the judge was wise in this decision."They will get through their trying time with the support of their family, and I'm sure these circumstance will strengthen them."God forgives our mistakes, but sometimes we do need to live with the consequences and perhaps the young couple needs a little more time to bond before entering marriage."Mrs Ramsay said she still encouraged young couples to follow their spiritual convictions, including if this means applying for permission to marry."I do wish this couple many blessings, and hope they are still just as in love when she is 18 and ready for marriage," she said.
