The networking and information session was designed to not only bring the growing industry together but provide some expert advice on the 2013 state and national ATA awards program.
The meeting was followed by a tour of the campus and the Student Central facilities.
ATA Illawarra representative Tory Macri, of Peoplecare, said the ATA Awards recognised the best and brightest in the contact centre industry and there was no reason why Illawarra contact centres could not compete with the best in Australia.
Last year, NSW entrant O’Brien was named the National Contact Centre of the Year in the 81 to 150 full-time equivalent employee category.
Debbie Barndon, of O’Brien, encouraged Illawarra contact centres to enter the 2013 ATA Awards and many people put up their hand when she asked who was thinking about doing so.
Call centre judge from 2012 Mary Durkan gave some tips on how to approach the entry and judging process.
She spoke about what excellence in contact centres meant from an organisation and individual perspective.
NSW Department of Trade and Investment, Regional Infrastructure and Services business development manager Donatella D’Amico said the contact centre industry was an important sector in the Illawarra economy.
‘‘There are 31 contact and processing centres in Wollongong alone,’’ Mrs D’Amico said.
Including Shellharbour and Nowra, the centres employ about 2300 staff.
