Warilla's Jeremy Henry has skyrocketed on the world ranking list.
This latest news comes as a result of his momentous back-to-back World Cup victory on his home club’s indoor greens last week.
The former Northern Ireland – now Australia – representative joins Warilla’s recently retired World Championships singles gold medallist Leif Selby as the top two men’s bowlers in the world.
Selby retained his position on top of the leaderboard, a spot he has maintained for almost 16 months after his first sabbatical from international competition at the finish of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, although only by the slimmest of margins.
The Warilla club mates are now on equal world ranking points (1050) after Henry jumped four places, with Selby edging ahead positionally due to the additional weighting carried by the sport’s marquee international event, the World Championships.
Scotland’s Graeme Archer climbed from equal 16th to seventh after his semi-final finish to eventual runner-up Tony Grantham, of New Zealand, at the World Cup.
Grantham is now equal 12th on the world rankings.
In the women’s rankings, the top four places remain unchanged, with Australia’s queen of the greens Karen Murphy holding second spot behind New Zealand’s World Cup winner Jo Edwards.
Guernsey’s World Cup finalist, Alison Merrienis third place a mere 45 points behind the World Championships singles winner Murphy.
NSW rookies ready for greater glory
Calling all Bowls NSW rookies.
The Bowls NSW Rookies program is open to players who have been playing bowls for less than 30 months.
To be eligible to enter you must not have been a registered bowler with any club anywhere in the world before April 1, 2011.
Also, you can only play in the Rookies twice – anyone who played in both the 2011 and 2012 Rookies is ineligible to enter in 2013.
Previous state winners are ineligible to enter. You must be registered as a member of an RNSWBA club to enter. This restricts the event to men.
In both singles and pairs, the initial stage of play will be round-robin in sections at venues within your zone in August/September this year.
This event is all about playing, so organisers are trying to ensure that everyone gets at least two games.
The best-performed teams then progress to the knockout stages. Zone winners proceed to the state finals at Raymond Terrace on November 2 and 3.
The singles and pairs are played at different times, so have a crack and enter both.
Entry fees are $25 per player, per event.
Entries close Friday, June 28.

Catch-up matches
The wet weather is playing havoc with proceedings in Zone 16 pennants.
Only two games were played in round seven on Warilla Bowling Club’s indoor green.
Warilla No1 defeated Oak flats 78 to 42 – 5 points to 1 and Dapto Citizens No6b downed Warilla 63 to 61 – 5 points to 1.
‘‘This means we have two rounds to catch up,’’ Brian Gibson of the Zone 16 match committee said.
Fortunately fine weather is forecast for this weekend.
