On 15/3/13 a team of men from your company came to my street, Mangerton Road, Wollongong to cut trees from power lines. I am appalled at the disgusting job they did in the street. I am not alone with this view as my neighbours are very angry and disgusted at the way their trees were hacked into as well. I have lived here for 15 years and my trees have been cut away from power lines by Integral Energy but never so savagely and never left looking so sad and hacked at. My partner and I take great pride in our home and garden and we maintain nature strips' pleasing aesthetics, both for ourselves and the public. Your men just come in and brutalise our hard work and love that we put into our homes. I am truly infuriated that they could come in like this and destroy our hard work. The residents of this area are nature loving people that care about animal and plant life. These trees that were brutalised were home to many birds, there were nests in some of these trees. Your men do not even check for this. These poor birds lose their homes and their nests ...
A number of trees that were hacked at were not even near power lines, nor were their branches, nor would they have gone that way. A lot of the branches were going in the opposite direction to the power lines. Some of the branches taken were less than two metres from the ground.
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!!!
I would suggest that you employ a person experienced in plants and wildlife to travel with your men and, prior to cutting trees, check for nests and wildlife and also assess what type of tree is being cut and just what really is necessary. How much lopping can a plant take without killing or damaging it? To leave the street with some level of aesthetic appeal would be more acceptable.
Your men go around and destroy streetscape, destroy wildlife homes and upset people.
I pay my land rates as do my neighbours. We are the ones who maintain the nature strips in front of our homes. We deserve to be treated with respect ...
I am so appalled by your company and the way you conduct your company. I can bet the community as a whole would agree.
A copy of this letter is being sent to local council, my local member and my local paper. I believe you need to change how you operate and I am going to do what I can to stop this from happening again. I understand you need to keep trees from power lines - the change is needed in the way this is done and the manner your men conduct themselves.
Yours faithfully,
Ms Boz Urukalo
