During May, cafes around the Illawarra are supporting Illawarra's Cuppa-4-Cancer.
Participating cafes, such as Swell, Lower East, The Point Cafe, Cafe Dusk, Out For Lunch (University of Wollongong and its Innovation Campus), iC Kiosk, Meni, BarLissimo, Lee and Me, Diggies, North Kiosk, Rush 1 (UOW), Rush 2 (UOW) and Kafe, are encouraging customers to get into the spirit of the Biggest Morning Tea while sipping on their favourite beverage.
They have four options to support the cancer cause.
People can purchase the Biggest Morning Tea Keep Cup, place money in the donations box, register their own Biggest Morning Tea or hash tag their support.
Barlissimo Gwynneville owner Jenny Rowles is a four-year cancer survivor and has committed to helping other members in the community touched by cancer by hosting Illawarra's Cuppa-4-Cancer at her cafe.
"It's so easy for the Illawarra community to support the cause just by doing what they would normally do on their way to work or on a lazy Sunday morning while sharing a cuppa with friends," she said.
"The cancer-care services and practical and financial support that I gained during treatment were invaluable and are incredibly important for all affected by cancer. My treatment wouldn't have gone as well if it wasn't for these services. It is important to support these cancer services by working as a community, with Cancer Council, to maintain and improve them."
Cancer Council NSW communication and events co-ordinator Tracy Thomas said money raised would go towards funding high-quality research, prevention, information and support services.
Ms Thomas said it was not too late to express an interest in hosting an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea in a workplace or other venue.
The Illawarra Grammar School and the Lagoon Seafood Restaurant have combined forces to do just that this morning at The Lagoon from 9.30am.
IMB Building Society and Bevans Corrimal have invited the Wollongong community to attend their morning at Bevans Corrimal office between 8am and 11am tomorrow.
And the Illawarra chapter of Junior Chamber International will host its biggest charity event of the year (Tea By The Sea) on The Deck at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach from 7am tomorrow.
Further information about registering an event is available at www.biggestmorningtea.com.au or on 1300 65 65 85.
